It's officially over. America as we know it no longer exists. We have replaced integrity, honor, valor, justice, and courage with "hope and change."
Barack Obama is dangerous. Not because he's a Democrat, and certainly not because he is black, but because he has said that he wants to "fundamentally transform" America. Universal health care, socialist redistribution of wealth, ending Operation Iraqi Freedom... these are things that stand against everything that made this nation great. We can all "hope" that he will govern from the center-left and that none of his radical ideas will ever make it to paper, "hope" that in four years America will be so thoroughly disgruntled with the Left that they will elect conservative leaders, "hope" a lot of things. Earth to America: there is no hope. Obama has never given us any reason to believe that he will do anything but govern from the hard left. The anti-war hippies and Marxists of the country now have their secular Messiah in office and he will be at the beck and call of the lunatics now running the asylum.
I have never been ashamed of my country. I have never even dared to think that I could be ashamed. But on Tuesday night, I was ashamed. Twenty years ago, the world watched as America (with help from key allies) delivered the coup de grace to Communism. Three generations ago, our nation saved the world from Nazism and fascism. Barely a century before that, our nation saved itself from being irrevocably torn apart by slavery. Scarcely a hundred years earlier, we broke free from tyranny and established ourselves as an independent democracy. Now we have chosen defeat in the face of Islamofascism. Obama will most assuredly pull us out of Iraq, and the thousands of Americans dead will have sacrificed their lives for nothing.
People say that there is always hope; that God is still in control. I don't see God in any of this at all. I have no hope that God will not let this nation crumble.
This is the beginning of the end for the Western world. America was the world's last best hope, as Bill Bennett put it... and within a couple years' time, we will be another European socialist state. The terrorists will strike us again and again and we will not lift a finger to stop them. We are committing suicide on a national scale. And for what reason? Because we wanted to prove that racism is dead in this nation by electing a black president? Because we are tired of war and want to bring the boys back home to stay? Because, because, because... there is no reason that is good enough to justify such an action.
Don't look to the Republican Party for hope, either: it's dead. The American people have decided that they were tired of electing liberal Republicans, so they may as well elect liberal Democrats since the two are indistinguishable. The GOP is finished. The people are liberal. Nothing is ever going to change that. How can that be, when four years ago, Bush was re-elected due to the values voters, and now those same voters have elected the most liberal candidate of the past however many decades?
The anti-American crowd says that the American people are ignorant, lazy, selfish, and that they deserve to suffer. This election vindicates them, as horrible of a thing that it is. The people have chosen to put their own prissy ideals before doing what's right in Iraq, allow a completely willing suspension of disbelief about the numerous character flaws and severe ideological problems of the new President-elect, and are not willing to do what is necessary to secure true peace and freedom, not just for us, but for our children and grandchildren. Whatever terrorist attacks occur on our shores in the next four years, as they undoubtedly will, we've asked for them. Maybe we deserve to suffer. That's what we asked for when we elected Barack Obama, isn't it?
I'm reading "We Will Prevail" right now. It's a collection of President Bush's speeches and remarks from 9/11 to 2003. Reading these words takes me back to that fateful day in September that the entire nation seems to have forgotten, when we all stood in solidarity and declared that the terrorists would never reach our shores again. I find it ironic to read the speech delivered on the deck of the USS Enterprise on December 7, 2001:
"The terrorists are the heirs to fascism. They have the same will to power, the same disdain for the individual, the same global ambitions. And they will be dealt with in just the same way. Like all fascists, the terrorists cannot be appeased: they must be defeated. This struggle will not end in a truce or treaty. It will end in victory for the United States, our friends, and the cause of freedom."
If only President Bush knew that seven years later, America would choose to appease the enemy and elect a defeatist know-nothing demagogue.
This nation of cowardice and unrestrained ideological pornography is not the nation that I grew up in. This is not the nation that saved the world from Hitler. This is not the nation that killed Communism. This is the nation that is about to reach the point of no return. Hell, we're practically there. Whatever happens, we get what we deserve.
Pucker up, America. It's time for change.
