Let's all give the legislative branch of our national government a heaping round of applause, because now we're totally screwed.
Two-thirds of Republicans voted against the bailout (one that they had managed to finagle nefarious things like ACORN and the like out of), 95 Democrats voted against it (funny how a largely Democratic bill can't pass in a Democrat-controlled Senate, isn't it? it probably wasn't socialist enough), and the markets continue to drop. Thanks, guys.
It wasn't a perfect bill. Republicans were painfully aware of this (with John Boehner going so far as to call it a "crap sandwich"). But it was a heck of a lot better than the initial socialist economy-killing piece of crap that the Democrats threw together first, and even if something isn't perfect, you've got to work with it. Reasonable, responsible action needs to be taken about the looming crisis in the economy, and the Senate stands by and plays political games while the rest of the nation officially goes into crisis mode.
Larry Kudlow thinks that the Dems are going to remake the bill and put all their crap into it that Republicans had stripped out: ACORN, bankruptcy judges setting mortgage terms and rates, etc., and that such a bill will probably pass, because people's fear of economic failure is going to override their better judgment... never mind, people's idiocy has already overridden their better judgment and could possibly bring about what Larry calls "the end of the U.S. financial system as we know it."
At this point it doesn't matter if the representatives are Democrats or Republicans: you may very well have screwed the country.
