Today is a very grey, rainy, and dismal day, as well suits the mood of the past seven September 11ths. We must never forget that our nation was senselessly and brutally attacked by Islamic terrorists whose aim was to kill as many Americans as possible. With that in mind, we need to possess the courage and strength of will and force to ensure that there will never be another 9/11 ever again.
"America is a nation full of good fortune, with so much to be grateful for. But we are not spared from suffering. In every generation, the world has produced enemies of human freedom. They have attacked America, because we are freedom's home and defender. And the commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time."
-President George W. Bush
I was just watching video footage of the WTC being hit and ultimately collapsing, and it brought tears to my eyes. All 2,977 people who died had names, faces, families, and souls. And they were all wiped out in an instant. Why? What causes evil men to commit such unthinkable acts?
When I watch the movie United 93, chills go down my spine when the passengers storm the cockpit. An emotion grips me as several passengers overtake the terrorist guarding the door to the cockpit and I find myself whispering, instinctively, as the enemy is beaten to death with a fire extinguisher: "kill him. kill the motherfucker."
this might not be the most loving, kind, gentle, or Christian thing to say, but I suspect that just as many people are thinking this today as they were on this fateful day seven years ago. "we're going to kill them all." Jamie Foxx's character in The Kingdom tells that to Jennifer Garner as they find out that their compatriots and friends had perished in a suicide bombing attack, and that's what the leader of a terrorist group gasps with his dying breath. cynics and many progressive types would say that an eye for an eye makes the world go blind, and that we need to lay down our arms and seek peace with the enemy instead of all of this killing.
Screw that.
There can be no peace with evildoers who are hellbent on our destruction. We cannot lay down our arms for them, as that will only make us easier targets. The blood of the thousands slain not only on this day, but in the War on Terror cries out from the earth, crying for justice. Yes, vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will accomplish the ultimate judgment against all evil men, but justice and security demand that we take the fight to their doorstep. As a Marine put it shortly after the terrorist attacks, "It's God's job to forgive Osama bin Laden. And it's our job to arrange the meeting." While I believe that it is all our job to forgive the enemy, forgiveness does not erase the fact that there are consequences to murder, and war is not in itself an exercise of hatred.
We must do what is necessary to keep our country safe and ensure that there will never be another 9/11. As Toby Keith put it in his song The Angry American, "We'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way."
and as Todd Beamer put it before the passengers of United 93 stormed the cockpit of their vessel and prevented more terrorist violence, "Let's roll."
We're going to kill them all.
